I’ve been proud to be the publisher of the only Black American Trade Publishing institution that distributes to the entire trade industry. For the past decade, Bronzeville Books has been the premier literary arts and culture institution in publishing for the underserved, the underrepresented, and the yet to be successful. In this, the 11th year of our operation, I’m inviting you to join me as an Active Member—not because I need “support,” but because I want us to reclaim something that belongs to us: a love for reading.

Reading is not a luxury. Reading is a birthright. And in times like these, it’s also protection—because if you can’t read the world, the world will read you.

So I built this the Bronzeville Way. That means social equity and literacy for all—borne through socially equitable representation in the books I’ve chosen to publish and produce for you, my followers. Not books that beg for approval. Not books that translate us for somebody else. Books that speak to us plainly, beautifully, and with our full humanity intact.

ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP is where we stop treating reading like homework and start treating it like power and pleasure again. It’s where we read together—not as strangers scattered across the internet, but as a cohort with a shared rhythm, a shared language, and a shared future.

I’m not asking you to “keep up.” I’m asking you to come home to the part of you that used to get lost in a story. To the part of you that wants to understand, to speak clearly, to choose wisely, to lead your people, and to succeed without apology. If you’ve been waiting for a sign—this is it. Join me. Become Active. Let me put the right books in your hands, in the right order, with the right intention—so the love of reading can rise in you again the way it was always meant to.

Active isn’t “basic.” Active is foundational. It’s the layer that makes everything else possible.

Active Membership is the front door. It’s the ground floor. It’s where the reading habit comes back, and where the Bronzeville Way becomes real—because you’re not watching a movement, you’re participating in one.

We start together. Everyone begins as an Active member of my own chapter—The Firehouse Chapter, lead by your Mayor of Bronzeville. Together, with my rhythm, my curriculum, my standards, we practice the 7 Stages of Social Literacy as we enjoy the READ. LEAD. SUCCEED pathway, which isn’t like your old English teacher’s reading time. We exercise the skills leisure reading builds that reinforce social literacy in a time when Black American and BIPOC communities need discernment now, more than ever.

That’s the alignment phase. That’s how we get one language, one cadence, one shared practice of “Read, Lead, Succeed.”

As we scale membership, new chapters form because the community grows dense enough in a geography, and because new leaders rise with proven consistency. Those leaders won’t be random. They’ll be Active members who showed up, read, helped others read, and carried the spirit of Bronzeville without drifting into ego or noise.

Here’s how the membership levels work together:

Active is the largest body—our citizens. Active membership is how we identify leadership: who participates, who finishes books, who adds clarity to discussion, who helps new readers, who keeps the discourse clean, who builds momentum in a neighborhood, a school, a workplace, or an online pocket of the Bronze Corridor.

Supporting is the sustaining layer—people who help fund more access, more books, more programming, and more reach. Supporting memberships begin at 50 Active members and are monetized for earning affiliate compensation and eligibility for the Minimum Quarterly Royalty payment for UGC.

Founding is the early governance and infrastructure layer—people who want to help build, steward, and scale the chapters with me. Different price points, same mission: literacy and social equity for all. And we don’t start scattered. We start together. Founding members eventually own their chapters and help us control inventory and support.

As chapters emerge, so does governance. Participation is recognized with our BronzecoinLT rewards tied to real contribution: recruiting and onboarding members, hosting sessions, completing reading milestones, facilitating discussion, supporting new readers, and helping a chapter stabilize. Rewards are not vibes. They are measurable, earned, and designed to make service feel worth it. So Active isn’t “basic.”

But Active is foundational. It’s the layer that makes everything else possible. It puts the READ in READ.LEAD.SUCCEED.
